Gynecomastia

What is Gynecomastia - Who is this for?
Candidates for Male Breast Reduction include men with excess sagging tissue on their chest, usually resulting from a considerable weight loss or a condition called Gynecomastia.

Gynecomastia is a condition in which a man develops larger-than-normal breasts. This is a condition not commonly discussed, but as you can imagine, men with Gynecomastia can become very self-conscious. The good news is that now this condition can be surgically corrected with little or no visible scarring afterwards!

Some people who pursue Male Breast Reduction will also benefit from Liposuction of excess fat in the armpit area, or the contouring and flattening of abdomen with Liposuction and / or a Tummy Tuck.

About the Gynecomastia Procedure
Male Breast Reduction is almost always done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia.

To correct the enlarged breast, there are 2 approaches. In some cases, only Liposuction is needed to improve the appearance of a man's breasts. In other cases, I make an incision at the areola to excise the underlying breast tissue. This scar is usually very imperceptible. Only if a man has a lot of lose skin is it necessary to make larger incisions.

Insurance Coverage
Male Breast Reduction is almost never covered by insurance policies.

What Post-Op care is required for Gynecomastia?
A Male Breast Reduction should result in a flatter chest with a more masculine contour.

In most cases, you'll be required to wear a compression vest or chest wrapping for a week or two after the surgery to help reduce any swelling. You may shower after 24 hours. If only Liposuction is required, you can return to work in 3-7 days. If a direct excision is necessary, most patients will take 5-7 days off from work.
