What is Liposuction?
Liposuction involves suctioning body fat through small, inconspicuous incisions to re-contour the body and reduce excess fat deposits.
Who is this for?
If you have excess substantial fat that has been resistant to diet and exercise, or you want to change the contours of your body, you could benefit from Liposuction.
Areas that people commonly have this procedure done on include the upper neck/ under the chin, abdomen, flanks, inner and outer thighs and knees. The results can be quite spectacular!
About the Liposuction Procedure
Liposuction is performed on an outpatient basis, usually with a general anesthetic. However, if just small area is being liposuctioned under the chin, Dr. Berman will perform the procedure in the office under local anesthetic. In all cases, I make very small incisions in inconspicuous areas near the fat deposits. This is followed by the insertion of a small suction tube (cannula) to draw out the excess fat. Dr.Berman performs Tumescent Liposuction, which involves first infiltrating the area for Liposuction with large volumes of fluid. This decreases the occurrence of bruising and discomfort afterwards. Very frequently, I use ultrasonic liposuction which is a special cannula which is inserted that liquifies the fat, allowing Dr. Berman to remove more fat. Dr. Berman believe this is particularly important when treating the flanks (sides), a man's chest and area that have had previous surgery or liposuction before.
What Post-Op care is required for Liposuction?
The time you will need to take off from work to recuperate from Liposuction will be based on the extent of your procedure. Postoperatively, a support garment is provided. Most Liposuction patients discontinue their painkillers 1-2 days after the procedure. Dr. Berman suggest that exercising be avoided for about 10 days after surgery. Most patients will return to their office jobs in 3-7 days.
Usually, you can expect any bruising and swelling to subside in about 2 weeks. The final result will take shape over 3 months. You can expect the results to be long lasting, provided that you do not put on weight. There is no truth that you cannot get fat in areas which have been liposuctioned.
