What is Laser Resurfacing?
CO2 Laser Resurfacing involves using a specialized laser to remove the upper layers of skin, resulting in a reduction of facial lines and wrinkles.
About the Laser Resurfacing Procedure
I use a CO2 Tru-Pulse Laser for skin resurfacing, primarily on lines and wrinkles around the lower eyelids and mouth – and frequently in combination with a Blepharoplasty. Laser Resurfacing can provide tremendous improvement in the appearance of lines and wrinkles. One of the drawbacks to the CO2 laser is that patients need to take one week off from work, since the wound is weepy for 4 days. There is also prolonged redness which can be hidden nicely by one of the special products which we carry in the office.
What Post-Op care is required for Laser Resurfacing?
No dressings are required after a Laser treatment, but people should expect some redness and drainage for 4-5 days. For most patients, the redness can persist for several weeks. We provide an excellent cover-up makeup for this time, and most of our patients will take approximately one week from work to recuperate.
N-Lite
What is this?
N-Lite is the first non-abrasive laser approved for wrinkle reduction in both the United States and Europe. The light from the N-Lite laser targets the tissue under the skin surface to stimulate new collagen growth. Over time, this new collagen fills in the depression under the wrinkle to reduce its depth.
Who is this for?
N-Lite is ideal for facial wrinkles that form around the mouth and eyes. It may also be beneficial for the forehead or back of the hands. Interestingly, it has been shown to be helpful in controlling acne. This is the major use for the N-lyte laser now. It needs to be used on a regular basis to be effective. It is postulated that the light from the N-lyte laser damages the bacteria which cause acne.
The Procedure
N-Lite treatments are painless, and can take as little as 3 minutes or up to 15 minutes, depending on the area treated and the extent of the wrinkles. Some patients may feel a very slight warming sensation during their treatment.
What you can expect
During the first 30 days after N-Lite treatment, the building blocks for collagen production are being created, but there will be visible improvement. During the next 2 months, however, you should se a slow steady improvement in the depth of the line or wrinkle. Expect to see the full result of your N-Lite session about 90 days afterwards. This is a very gentle laser and the results can be subtle. I use it primarily as a additional tool in helping control acne.
Unlike traditional laser treatments, the N-Lite does not require any post treatment care, since it works over time stimulating collagen underneath your skin. I believe that by using our Megapeels and skin care products, you can further enhance the results from the N-Lite laser.
It is important to realize that the N-Lite Laser is best viewed as a useful tool in the war against aging and not a miracle cure. The FDA approved the N-Lite after it demonstrated after 3 months a 55% reduction in the line or wrinkle around the eyes. This means that the line or wrinkle is still present but is decreased. Also, it means that the reduction of 55% is an average and some patients will get more benefit and some will get less.
I feel that all patients should receive 2 treatments 2-3 weeks apart.
